As a survivor of childhood leukemia, there are not many things that anger me more than seeing companies flood our environment, our shelves, and ultimately our bodies with cancer causing agents. Why am I bringing this up today? Because it was just reported by the CDC that over 80% of Americans tested were found to have the cancer-causing chemical glyphosate (also known by its brand name “Round-Up”) in their urine.
You can read about that here- Weed Killing Chemical Found in Majority of Americans’ Urine
Thankfully, over the past few years Round-Up manufacturer Monsanto (now owned by Bayer) has had serious legal judgments against them for covering up scientific evidence that glyphosate causes cancer. In fact, one man in California was awarded $289 million dollars in one such case described here- Jury Awards Terminally Ill Man $289 Million in Monsanto Case
Unfortunately, glyphosate is still allowed to be used on the foods we eat, so we must be intentional about avoiding this deadly chemical. How do we do that? Simple. Buy and eat organic foods- particularly fruits, vegetables and grains. Since glyphosate is a pesticide, it is typically sprayed on these crops. Organic crops on the other hand must be mostly chemical free, otherwise they cannot be certified. This forces the grower to use more expensive (and superior) grow methods, which is why organic foods cost a little more. Here’s an article from Harvard School of Public Health about a report that was published on the benefits of eating organic. It includes links to the report and other helpful articles.

P.S. Although I love America, sadly we are one of the worst countries in the world when it comes to regulating carcinogens like glyphosate. In fact, here’s a list of 30 other food additives that are legal in the US but banned in other countries for health reasons. I’m willing to bet that you are probably consuming some of these toxic chemicals without even realizing it.
